TEOTITLAN, OAXACA, MEXICO - JULY 19: Rolando de los Angeles, an unidentified young boy, Pablo GutÃerrez, and Leonel Chavez relax during a break between their dances at a quinceañera. Chambelanes are the male escorts at the party, and are typically made up of male relatives and close friends of the quinceañeras. It is also customary for the quince to perform several dances with her chambelanes that she has choreographed and arranged herself. The dances range from traditional indigenous to classical European dances like the waltz to being set to modern American and Mexican love ballads. Quinceañeras, which celebrate a young woman's fifteenth birthday and her entrée into womanhood, are one of the most important ceremonies a young woman will participate in, other than her wedding. Indeed, as this event serves as a debut, it is not uncommon that a young woman will be married within a few years of her quinceañera. Photo by Sara Naomi Lewkowicz/Getty Images Reportage
